The army steel helmet entered service in 1940 and is still in use today.
A leather piece called a tulle is attached to the inner lower part of the helmet along the circumference.
With the help of slots, this part is divided into petals connected with a cord at the top of the helmet. Such a device provides a smooth and comfortable fit of the helmet on a human head, and is also an elastic element and excludes the possibility of contact between the head and metal. In addition, the petals dampen the impact of stones on the helmet and reduce the impact of fragmentation objects. For greater softness and comfort, in some samples, soft flat leather pads are attached to the petals.
