escription:
Cockade is of a pattern in the shape of a red five - pointed star
bearing gilt plough and hammer in its Centre as a distinction for soldiers of the new army retaining their old uniform.  The cockade is made of anodized aluminum with a goldish coating. Method of painting is cold enamel. The cockade is fastened with a clamper (or “the barbs”).
Caps Emblems – Red Star Insignia of the Soviet Army
.  Soviet Army Emblems of the immediate post-war period were largely identical to cockade worn during World War Two, emblems have been preserved after the war. Among the few changes introduced towards the end of this period was the authorization of brass leaves on visors of officers' parade caps and allowing those same officers to wear white-topped caps in the summer the same cockade emblems. Parade caps with cockade worn by the common soldier and sergeants remained exactly like those authorized.
In January 1998, some changes were made in the military uniform.
Instead of the State Emblem the crown of the officer’s cap started to be decorated with the newly established goldish metal emblem of the Armed Forces – a double-headed eagle with a drawn sword and laurel wreath in its clutches.

It was way back in March 1918 that the official story of the Red Army five-pointed star
being one of the most remarkable and recognizable headgear cockades of the XX century begins. It is first noteworthy to comment that “
Cockade
” as a formal term applies to 1918 pattern red star badge only.
It was the
Order of the Extraordinary Headquarters No.240 dated March 2, 1918
for Moscow Military District personnel that instituted the very first cockade of the young Soviet state. Paragraph 8 of the Order introduced
“Cockade of a new pattern in the shape of a red five-pointed star bearing gilt plough and hammer in its Centre as a distinction for soldiers of the new army retaining their old uniform”
.
Now a note is to be made and a word is to be said about five-pointed red star as the most recognized symbol of the Soviet Russia.
“Red Star is the symbol of the workers’ and peasants’ Soviet government
that protects the poor and ensures equality of the toilers. Hammer and plough make up a symbol of unity of urban worker and rural ploughman who joined together in a pact to defend their land and freedom, workers’ and peasants’ Soviet government and socialist homeland against such enemies and butchers of the working people as capitalists, noble landowners, kulaks, foreign exploiters and other counter-revolutionary scum. That is the true meaning of the Red Star as the badge of a red Army soldier…”.
